The cost of funerals
About this Event

The Dead Good days team will be delivering another insightful day on the theme of Funeral Costs

DEAD EXPENSIVEThurs 19th Feb, 1- 4pm, Edmund Kell Hall Bellevue Road, Southampton, SO15 2AY Accesible & Induction Loop

For specific access needs please email [email protected]

This is a free event, useful for a personal and/or professional exploration of Funeral Poverty, how to support people struggling to meet funeral costs or in the anticipation of ones own death.

The afternoon includes:

  • A talk from 'Down to Earth', who offer support to people faced with having to organise a funeral on a low income.
  • Pam Campbell on Public Health funerals: funerals funded by the City Council when the family and friends of the person who died are unable to meet the cost of a funeral or where no relatives or friends are known of.
  • A Dead Good Days workshop exploring options, challenges, and concerns when trying to fund a meaningful and appropriate funeral.

Refreshments by donation

The average cost of a funeral is £4,500 and even the cheapest Direct Cremations costing between £1,000 and £1,500, having to pay for a funeral has become a major finacial issue for many people leading to long term debt and use food banks.

This event would be especially useful for people supporting those on low incomes, people facing issues such as debt and homelessness, or their own imminent death or that of someone close.

The event will also encompass the caring and respect needed to support people facing this financial and emotionally challenging time.

Organised by Dead Good Days, a Southampton based network which creates events, workshops and talks to inform and equip us to deal better with death, dying and loss.

With all best wishes

Dead Good Days Team,Deb Wilkes, Chris Townsend, Helen Corvus & Pam Campbell
