De-phrag-menting Lemoine Point 2026

Invasive phragmites threaten our native species by making it difficult for them to grow and survive. You will join volunteers from the Friends and staff from Cataraqui Conservation and Nature Conservancy Canada doing manual control and removal of phragmites, which will further prevent the species from spreading and allow native vegetation to flourish once again.

Snacks, lunch and beverages will be provided.

Physical activity will include working in a dry field, twisting, bending, pulling and carrying cut stalks away from the work site.

Fitness: Moderate fitness level required.

Toilet: There is a toilet facility within walking distance of the work site.

Tools: All tools will be provided by the Friends. You are welcome to bring your own (shovel or spade) if you prefer.

Food: Lunch, water and snacks will be provided.

Equipment List:

• Rubber boots (preferred) or sturdy closed-toe shoes you don’t mind getting dirty
• Boots with a stiff shank in the sole will make the work more comfortable
• Layers of long clothing (long-sleeved shirt, long pants, sweater)
• Work or gardening gloves
• Hat with a brim
• Water bottle
• Sunscreen/bug spray

No previous experience is required. This event is suited for those aged 14 and over. This event will proceed rain or shine, so please dress for the conditions.
