Throughout the day Wolverhampton glass artist Suzie from Suzie Lavender Contemporary Glass will be teaching two sessions of fused glass making techniques. You are welcome to attend either the morning or afternoon workshop or you can attend both sessions for the day at a discounted price. These workshops are suitable for beginners or as a refresher course. Your workshop ticket also entitles you to full entry to the Manor and Gardens, Cafe, Gallery and shop!
The schedule for the day is as follows:
Morning Session 10:30am-12:30pm: Festive Glass Garlands - In this workshop you will design and create a hanging 2D glass Garland. You will construct and create a garland shape (approx12-14cm wide) by cutting, layering and gluing various pieces of glass and accessories, and adding decoration in a colour scheme of your choice. You will learn some basic glass fusing and layering techniques with coloured glass. Participants will be introduced a selection of materials and tools. All participants will make a large single hanging garland shape which will be fused together in a kiln following the workshop and be ready to collect two weeks later. A ribbon can then be strung through to hang your garland in your home!
Lunch (not provided) 12:30-1:30pm. Wightwick Manor has a cafe on site and many outdoors areas for enjoying a packed lunch in the fresh air if the weather suits.
Afternoon Session 1:30pm-3:30pm: Winter Scenes – Create your own winter pictures out of glass! Think Winter trees, Snow scenes, Christmas trees and presents or any festive design! In this workshop you will learn some basic glass fusing, cutting and layering techniques with coloured glass. Participants will be introduced a selection of materials, paints and tools. All participants will make and decorate a rectangle glass panel in colours of your choice. You will then be able to choose whether your glass scene will be be a hanging picture, a flat tile that can later be framed by you or mounted in wood, or whether you would like your glass formed into a standing curved wave piece. Suzie will do the kiln magic and then you will be able to collect your glass two weeks later from Wightwick!
Participants who are regular attendees of Suzie’s workshops are welcome to make different projects to save repetition if they contact Suzie in advance.
All creations will be kiln fired by Suzie following the sessions and then collection from Wightwick Manor (or postage of the work can be organised - do expect the usual xmas post delays however!) ) from 14days later.
