DAYS GONE BYE EVENT SPECIAL !!
Saturday 20th of June we are offering a members only morning to re create some old provincial guy Arabs route from the 1950s in Gosport and fareham .
This event is for members and their family’s to spend the morning with us and one or two of our beautiful beloved guy Arabs where we will depart from Gosport and travel some old routes and see how the evolution of time has changed the routes in the area and to show the good old days in living history on wheels . We will also have a guided tour with our archivist Chris Richardson who will be on hand to discuss the days gone bye and history of the old services and much more . We hope to bring out some archival material to be enjoyed .
The trip …
We will begin at explosion museum in Gosport where we will depart in the morning and we will follow the old route 5 which ran from priory road to the ferry in the 1950s
We will then arrive at the Gosport bus station for a few moments ( depending on services on the stand we will stop for photos of the old bus station site and and the new one )
From there we will travel along to park road following the old route 12 and along into little Anglesey road where we will be stopping for a unique opportunity to get some photos next to the creek .
From there we will head to stokes bay seafront and then along to Bridgemary where will follow the seasonal open top route and into the old route 15 to fareham market ( again we hope to stop for a few brief moments however it’s unlikely you can get off to take photos due to the busy nature on a Saturday for service vehicles)
From there we will follow the old route 17 to Heath field and catisfield ( we will be hopeful for a chance to stop for photos at a point to be confirmed)
From there we will travel the main route 1 back to fareham and we will be driving through the hoeford depot where people can see the depot working as it is as a main electrical charge facility for more than just local vehicles where we hope to add a little suprise for you all
Following on from here we then return to explosion museum where we will be on hand to show you vehicles engine and have photo opportunities of the vehicle and talk to the driver who is also the driver trainer at hoeford and the lead for the electric vehicle project at hoeford and the son of the late F.W.York who is also the new chairman of the provincial society . We hope to bring out some unseen collections from the F.W.York works ( these are not to be photographed and will not be for sale ) .
This event is the first one we are creating and hopefully the first of many a year we can bring to you and your family’s and you can enjoy the living history and the society more .
A few little things I must add
Times will be confirmed once the tidal times are fully confirmed by Portsmouth tide times .
When you arrive at explosion museum please don’t not park on the site as the museum is open to the public and need their spaces for disabled patrons and staff -please park where you can around the area but please be considerate of the neighbourhood residents ( there is plenty of parking just up the road )
