U utorak, 3. studenog u 19 sati u Galeriji Karas (Ulica kralja Zvonimira 58) Davor Mezak otvara svoju samostalnu izložbu pod nazivom Solastalgija 2 — San o rijeci.
Iz predgovora umjetnika izdvajamo:
„Postoji posebna vrsta tuge koja nastaje kada se mjesto kojem pripadamo počne mijenjati pred našim očima. Fizički smo još uvijek ovdje, ali krajolik koji poznajemo postupno nestaje. Rijeke presušuju ili izlaze iz korita, šume mijenjaju boju, godišnja doba gube nekadašnji ritam. Poznati prostor postaje nepoznat.
Australski filozof okoliša Glenn Albrecht takvo je iskustvo nazvao solastalgijom — osjećajem gubitka doma dok se još uvijek nalazimo u njemu. Za razliku od nostalgije, koja podrazumijeva udaljenost od mjesta za kojim čeznemo, solastalgija nastaje upravo zbog nemogućnosti odmaka od promjene kojoj svjedočimo. Dom je još uvijek tu, ali više nije isti.
Projekt Solastalgija 2 — San o rijeci nastavlja moje ranije bavljenje klimatskim promjenama, odnosom čovjeka i okoliša te osjećajem nesigurnosti koji nastaje pred transformacijama prirode koje više ne možemo promatrati kao nešto što pripada dalekoj budućnosti. Međutim, u ovom projektu ne pokušavam ilustrirati klimatsku krizu niti ponuditi njezinu dokumentarnu sliku. Zanima me nešto drugo: kako izgleda osjećaj života unutar promjene koju još uvijek ne možemo do kraja razumjeti?”
Biografija:
Davor Mezak završio je Školu primijenjene umjetnosti u Zagrebu, a 1995. diplomirao je na Akademiji likovnih umjetnosti u Zagrebu, u klasi prof. Ante Kuduza. Od 1992. redovito izlaže u Hrvatskoj i inozemstvu. Izlagao je na više od 100 skupnih i 30 samostalnih izložaba. Dobitnik je četiriju nagrada za likovnu umjetnost.
Izložba je otvorena u periodu od 3. do 24.11.2026.

On Tuesday, 3th of November Davor Mezak opens his solo exhibition entitled Solastalgia 2 — Dream of a River at 7 pm in Karas gallery (Ulica kralja Zvonimira 58).
In his preface, the artist emphasizes:
„There is a particular kind of sadness that arises when a place to which we belong begins to change before our eyes. We are still physically here, but the landscape we know is gradually disappearing. Rivers dry up or burst their banks, forests change colour, and the seasons lose their familiar rhythm. A once-familiar place becomes unfamiliar.
The Australian environmental philosopher Glenn Albrecht called this experience solastalgia — the feeling of losing one's home while still living in it. Unlike nostalgia, which implies distance from the place we long for, solastalgia arises precisely because we cannot distance ourselves from the change we are witnessing. Home is still there, but it is no longer the same.
Solastalgia 2 — Dream of a River continues my earlier engagement with climate change, the relationship between humans and the environment, and the sense of uncertainty brought about by transformations in nature that we can no longer regard as belonging to some distant future. In this project, however, I am not attempting to illustrate the climate crisis or present a documentary account of it. What interests me is something else: what does it feel like to live amid changes that we cannot yet fully comprehend?”
Biography:
Davor Mezak studied at the School of Applied Arts in Zagreb and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 1995, where he studied under Professor Ante Kuduz. He has exhibited regularly in Croatia and abroad since 1992, participating in more than 100 group exhibitions and holding 30 solo exhibitions. He has received four awards for his work in the visual arts.
The exhibition will be open during the period from 3. to 24.11.2026.

Tuesday, Saturday 10am – 1pm
