David Lynch always said he wanted his films to be felt, not intellectualized. Lynch's labyrinthian narratives forego a traditional plot structure in favor of a dreamlike quality all his own, a purely experiential film, overflowing with raw emotion visualized like no other - each film affecting every viewer differently, on a more direct and intimate level. Lynch was truly a genre unto himself.
In that respect, "Mulholland Drive" is perhaps his most potent achievement. Landing in eighth place on the Sight & Sound poll of the greatest films ever made, Lynch's fever dream of a film is a vivid and destabilizing portrait of the Hollywood system. Like "Blue Velvet" and "Twin Peaks" before it, "Mulholland Drive" presents an idealized portrait of the America dream and proceeds to exhume the bodies - the envy and guilt and shame - rotting underneath the glitz and glamour of Tinseltown.
"No hay banda."
Synopsis: Blonde Betty Elms has only just arrived in Hollywood to become a movie star when she meets an enigmatic brunette with amnesia. Meanwhile, as the two set off to solve the second woman’s identity, filmmaker Adam Kesher runs into ominous trouble while casting his latest project.
