Daniel Avery’s fearlessly ambitious approach to techno has made him a singular presence in the electronic landscape. Since the release of his breakout “Drone Logic,” Avery has approached production as truly visionary worldbuilding. His sonic imprint is unmistakable, fusing techno’s raw power with the soft violence of shoegaze, the towering scale of film scores and the direct-to-your-skull charisma of the rock star. “The thing that draws me to this kind of music the most is the idea of taking machines, mechanical objects, and breathing some kind of human life into them,” he once said. “Some kind of living soul or beating heart, and making them sing.” Spanish artist Blanka makes her debut. As the co-founder of Room Trax, she’s become a force building a bridge between her home country and more recent base in Berlin. Meanwhile, her productions have found a home on labels like Soma and SK_eleven, giving a sense of both her classic sensibility and cutting edge touch. Daiyah returns to set it straight. One of NY’s freshest talents in recent years, Daiyah embodies the city’s techno renaissance. Perel returns. The DFA goes all in on the syrupy, libidinous and chugged-out. Finding that sweet spot where the hedonistic legacy of disco gets a steamy electronic makeover, Perel’s fusion of moody synth pop and modern dance transcends. Multimodal phenom Laurel Halo makes her debut. Halo’s music connects the dots in ways few can. On the seminal Hyperdub label, she broke with a tradition of UK-centric dance music and released a series of experimental electronic albums that announced her as a remarkable new talent. Her most recent LP, “Atlas,” is a suite of collaborative avant garde sound baths for decaying cities, but as a DJ she finds a way to make the dancefloor all her own. Halo’s excursions in jungle, bass and d’n’b are mirrored by her selections, which range from tech-y minimal to gqom. Masha Mar returns. A resident of both NTS and LA’s Dublab, Mar is a digger par excellence. Her freaky, cosmic sound goes straight for the jugular, bringing the room first to a simmer and then a boil.
