D&G Food Summits: Getting Ready for a Good Food Nation (Dumfries)
About this Event
The Good Food Nation Act in Scotland ensures that every local authority and health board in the country has a duty to create a Good Food Nation Plan. Regional Plans must be published by April 2028.
In Dumfries and Galloway we are taking a collective approach - relevant public bodies working together with people and communities across the region. The D&G Food Summits signal the start of the process.
You are invited to participate as we come together to start discussing the key themes that will be the building blocks of our Good Food Nation Plan:
Healthy Food for All - making sure everyone has access to affordable, healthy food
Food Sustainability - reducing the impact of food production and processing and waste on the environment
Community Food - celebrating our food culture, supporting community growing, cooking, sharing and learning
Procurement - transforming what is served on plates in schools, hospitals, prisons and other public spaces
Food and Drink Economy - supporting a strong food economy with resilient businesses, jobs and training opportunities
Children and Young People - better food in and out of school, healthier choices for families, and supporting breastfeeding initiatives
The Food Summits will be inclusive, interactive and interesting. We will be seeking your views on what's working well, and where there's room for improvement - and also looking for your involvement on short life thematic working groups to help shape the Plan.
Events will take place in:
Dumfries, The Bridge, Monday 26 October
Stranraer, D&G College, Tuesday 3 November
