About this Event
This is a space for rusty dancers to reconnect to their bodies and expression, whether it’s been days or decades since you last moved. Especially for those recovering from postpartum, injury, or general adulting, we’ll ease in and go at a pace that is adaptable for your body.
<h4></h4>
You can expect:
- an opening space to briefly share your dance story,
- a modern/jazz style warm up at a beginner level,
- guided freestyle dance prompts,
- and a bit of lyrical choreography.
</h4>
- You’ve been thinking about dancing more… how good it would feel to begin or end your days dancing and expressing yourself, but you keep not doing it. Life seems to get in the way, you can’t find the right class, you end up prioritizing other things or convincing yourself that you don’t really need it, and therefore your dance dreams stay on the backburner.
- You’re in the midst of - or recovering from - a life transition. Whether you had a baby, went through a break up, moved, lost someone or something you love, or any other type of transition, you’ve been IN IT. And it feels… weird? sad? difficult? heartbreaking? Whatever the feelings are that come and go, you long for a deeper connection to parts of you that will help you move through it.
- Your body feels different than it used to, whether it’s due to injury, having kids, or getting older… (or maybe all 3?!) and as much as you believe that all bodies are dancer bodies, and as much as you will cheer on anyone else who dances, you still carry self-criticism and feel uncomfortable moving in this new body of yours. You’d love to move past that so that you can find your joy through movement once again.
- You’ve been craving a new start, a reinvention. You know that dance is an essential part of you, and it’s time you got reacquainted with it. You want to stop putting it off and start integrating dance into your life in a new way, a creative way, a way that works uniquely for you. You might not even know exactly what that looks like but you know it’s possible and it’s exciting to imagine!
Jess Grippo (she/her) is the founder of Dance Again and the creator and facilitator of the Dance Again Teacher Training. After leaving her classical ballet path and not dancing for almost a decade, she then started making dance videos alone in her room, which essentially brought her back to life.
Since then she’s gradually built Dance Again as a creative business and dance company, and has been featured at TEDxNYU, Lincoln Center's Dance On Camera Festival, the NY Comedy Club, Women’s Health Magazine, and more, as well as dancing on the streets with strangers, which she documents on social media.
Her most recent creation is her son Angelo. Her classes are creative, approachable, and encourage your unique expression. Read more about her at jessgrippo.com
“I love the space Jess has created for us... It's not just about working on a dance, or the act of getting to dance again, it is so much more than that. I’m learning so much more about myself than I ever thought I could and it's given me the confidence to explore and create more.” ~Daniela Ramirez
"I love the intuitive way in which Jess led us. She created a space in which I was able to connect to my heart and to an inner truth that I hadn't yet realized until that point in the workshop. Ever since, things have been concretizing in big ways and my creative life is blossoming. Jess, you're a somatic genius!" ~ Melissa Guttman
"Before starting Dance Again, I struggled to find a dance class that really resonated with me. I felt a bit lost and I worried that there might not be a place for me. Dance Again has helped me to reawaken my own unique dance and has also opened me up to new ways of movement, thanks to Jess and the other participants. If you are looking for a dance program that is positive, nurturing and inspiring, Dance Again is the place for you no matter what your dance background is." ~Marikit
"I haven’t taken dance class in a LONG time. I had no idea how much stuff from the past was in the way. Dancing with Jess is so much more than just dancing. She walks the path of what she teaches. She lives her creativity and gives all of us permission to do the same." ~ Emily Whyte
