200 years ago in 1826, Charles Waterton completed his famous boundary wall. It marked out the world’s first ever nature reserve. He created a sanctuary for animals and nature within 'Waterton's Wall'.The Friends of Waterton Wall are planning a month-long festival in May 2026. They will be celebrating 200 years since the completion of the wall at Walton Park.
Join John Whitaker, Curator and Trustee of the Friends of Waterton’s Wall, to hear about the history of the wall. Learn about the challenges the Friends are tackling to preserve it.
This talk will take place in the Museum Learning Zone, inside Wakefield Library, Upper Ground Floor of the Wakefield One building.
Free, booking required as spaces are limited.
