Curate Your Own World: Kids Art Workshop
Schedule

My Good Brain | San Diego, CA
About this Event
What if your child could design their own world, exactly how they imagine it? In this one-hour workshop led by MGB Resident Artist Kat Colella, kids will decorate a personal keepsake box, fill it with kinetic sand and miniature figures, and create a calming, imaginative space that's entirely theirs to take home.
✨ What We'll Create Together
1 Decorate Your Box
Each child gets their own personal-sized box. Using donated paint markers, they'll decorate the outside to reflect their imagination — no two boxes will look alike!
2 Explore the Sand
We'll pour tan and green kinetic sand into the ocean-blue base. Kids get to shape, mold, and arrange the landscape of their world.
3 Build Your World
Choose from a collection of miniature figures and objects to populate their scene. Forests, animals, people, structures — it's up to them!
🌿 More than just art — it's a wellness tool
This workshop is inspired by sand tray therapy, a research-backed technique used by child therapists to help kids process emotions, feel in control, and build self-expression. Kat will open with a gentle group conversation about how playing with sand can help us feel calm and grounded — and remind every child that in their world, there's no right or wrong way to create.
