The Cup of Joy Lecture: Art, Faith, and Shared History invites visitors to explore how a single medieval ritual object can illuminate centuries of connection between Jewish and Muslim communities. Dr. Adam Levine, the Edward Drummond and Florence Scott Libbey Director of the Toledo Museum of Art, will share insights on TMA’s newly acquired Kiddush cup—an extraordinary 11th–12th century work from the Khorasan region along the Silk Road. Bearing blessings in both Hebrew and Arabic, the cup reflects a moment of artistic collaboration and shared spiritual life, opening space for broader conversations about coexistence, creativity, and cultural exchange. Guests are invited to arrive early for light refreshments and to connect with others before the presentation begins. Afterward, “Ask Me” docents will be stationed in select galleries near artworks that echo the themes of the program, encouraging personal reflection and informal conversation. This free program welcomes all audiences and supports ongoing efforts to build understanding across diverse racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds.
