Culture, leadership & governance: a colloquium
About this Event
Culture, leadership and governance for organisations managing catastrophic incident risks: a one-day colloquium
Strong safety outcomes depend on leaders who understand how culture, governance and decision-making shape the conditions in which catastrophic incident risks are managed.
Designed for senior leaders and safety professionals, the colloquium will help participants connect major incident case evidence with the cultural, leadership and governance choices that shape long-term risk performance.
This one-day, in-person event will give participants the opportunity to hear from Trish Kerin and engage with experienced peers. Together, they will explore insight, language and practical strategies for improving performance in the management of catastrophic incident risks.
Structure of the event
Three case studies will be presented through video. The headline stories are likely to be familiar but are likely to be outside of participants’ direct experience. The detailed causal factors and preconditions for each of these significant incidents, traced by the presenter back over many years and across the organisations involved, will help participants recognise and understand the deeper causes of each significant incident.
After hearing the case study descriptions, participants will reflect on, examine and discuss the organisational and long-latency causes in each example.
Ideas will then be shared and discussed, helping participants to develop new perspectives on how culture, leadership and governance can and must set the conditions that support well-founded decision-making and robust processes to manage catastrophic incident risks over the long term.
Materials
At the conclusion of the event, participants will be:
