Join Outside In Artist and Children's Book Illustrator Valeria Leonova at Artspace Macclesfield for a Petrykivka Painting workshop!

Petrykivka painting (or simply "Petrykivka") is a traditional Ukrainian decorative painting style, originating from the village of Petrykivka in Dnipropetrovsk oblast of Ukraine. In 2012, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine recognized Petrykivka painting as a part of the intangible cultural heritage of Ukraine, and it was included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2013.

Discover the Ukrainian technique with its symbolism of domestic safety and the bittersweet meaning of this to the Ukrainian people. All painting equipment and guidance is provided, and the class is suitable for both beginners and those who have painted in this style before. It’s also very nice and relaxing technique to learn.

Who is the Event for?

Please note that this event is primarily for Outside In artists who are over 18yrs old and artists who face significant barriers to the arts world be it through health, disability, isolation or social circumstance, and members of Macclesfield’s Ukranian community. The event has limited space and those who meet Outside In's criteria will need to be prioritised.

Cultural Ties Partnership

This workshop is part of a project funded by Cheshire Community Foundation that explores skill-sharing of the heritage crafts of Petrykivka painting and Nalbinding. This project is in partnership with The Silk Museum and Artspace Macclesfield.

The workshop is held in a wheelchair accessible building, but please do add any access requirements when booking your ticket so that we can do our best to accommodate them.
