The museum is pleased to welcome artist Joshua Carter (Mashantucket Pequot) for an insightful workshop exploring cultural intelligence from a Native perspective. A thought-provoking discussion to understand how enhanced awareness can strengthen our relationships and consciousness of the communities around us.
Josh is a respected leader with extensive experience in tribal governance, organizational leadership, and cross-cultural development. He previously served as Executive Director of the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center and spent twelve years in progressive leadership roles within the Tribe’s Human Resources Department. A highly accomplished Wampum artist, Josh has dedicated more than 20 years working with the quahog shell tradition, creating work that honors and preserves the language, cultural practices, and enduring legacy of his community. His professional and artistic contributions reflect a deep commitment to cultural stewardship, education, and community engagement.
CQ is a globally recognized way of assessing and improving the ability to relate to and work effectively with people from different cultural backgrounds, based on a deeper understanding of cultural differences.
When engaging with Native peoples, CQ involves recognizing the distinct histories, values, governance systems, and lived experiences of Indigenous communities rather than treating them as a single, homogeneous group.
The purpose of the workshop is to build and strengthen your CQ competencies, personal skills, and critical awareness in:
- Developing healthy relationships – personal/professional
- Decision making in culturally diverse environments
- Leadership effectiveness
- Your cultural learning approach and actions
This program is recommended for museum visitors, educators, students, cultural practitioners, and anyone interested in developing respectful cross-cultural relationships
This program is free and open to the public for those ages 16 years old and older. Registration is recommended to ensure space availability.
