Winter traditions through paper crafts, storytelling, and seasonal tastes- workshop for women and children
About this Event

A warm, creative afternoon celebrating Afghan and Syrian winter traditions through paper crafts, storytelling, and seasonal tastes. Perfect for families and individuals—no experience needed. Activities include a symbolic paper “bonfire” (Charshanbe Suri theme), Buzkashi horse craft, Syrian tile & citrus art, and a no‑cook tasting table.

Why February?
While February isn’t a major holiday month, it’s rich with winter traditions:

  • In Afghanistan, Buzkashi (the national horseback sport) is typically played in winter, and families start preparing for Charshanbe Suri (the fire‑jumping festival that ushers in spring in March). [
  • In Syria, February markets feature citrus fruits and winter comfort foods; Islamic observances vary by lunar calendar across years.

What You’ll Do:

  • Paper “Bonfire” of Renewal: Create a safe, symbolic bonfire with tissue paper and reflect on hopes for the year ahead (inspired by Charshanbe Suri preparations).
  • Buzkashi Horse Craft: Cut and decorate paper horses with Afghan‑inspired motifs—great for kids and adults
  • Syrian Tile & Citrus Art: Design blue‑and‑white “ceramic” tiles on card and make citrus‑stamp prints inspired by Syrian winter produce and markets.
  • Shared Snack Table (No Cooking): Taste a simple spread such as Afghan Haft Mewa (dried fruits & nuts) and Syrian citrus & mint tea.
