Crystals + Stones - The Metaphysical + The Mineralogical

Join Breathing Room Collective and The Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks and Minerals for a special event where we'll explore the metaphysical properties of crystals as well as the science behind them including where, how, and when they are formed.
THIS IS A KID-FRIENDLY EVENT!
Understanding how our planet creates these magnificent specimens will enhance and empower your personal connection to your favorite crystals and stones. Plus, it's an opportunity to geek out on the scientific side of things!
Kim Vagner, from the Rice Museum, will share the science with us. Danie Rhodes, one of our incredible workshop guides here at Breathing Room will explain the metaphysical properties of these same stones and crystals.

Kimberly Vagner is the Executive Director of the Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks and Minerals. With her strong knowledge of gems and minerals and background in museum operations and management, Kimberly is charged with creating a plan for the museum that includes updating content and galleries, expanding outreach to the Hillsboro community, and aligning with STEM education initiatives. Prior to the Rice Museum, she served as director of the Gems and Minerals Center of Excellence at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas, Texas. She also worked for the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), and credits her start in the profession with volunteering in the mineral sciences department of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History. She holds a Masters Degree in Decorative Arts & Design from Parsons School of Design and has a Graduate Gemologist diploma from GIA.

The Rice Museum is nestled on 23 wooded acres in the farmland outside Portland. It houses a world-class collection of minerals, rocks, gems, fossils, and meteorites. The main building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its unique mid-century modern style, natural stonework, and use of Myrtlewood and Quilted Maple throughout. A Smithsonian Affiliate, the Museum is one of only three in Oregon to hold this designation.
