Crossing the River: Milwaukee's Bridges, Gears, and Grudges
About this Event
This walk traces Milwaukee's bridge engineering along the Riverwalk: rafts and rope ferries giving way to swing spans, then the vertical lifts that still yawn open for traffic today. These bridges were also flashpoints and sometimes a battleground. We'll look at the gears, the counterweights, and the century of grudges that built them.
Meeting Location: Corner of W. State Street and N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, the northwest corner of Pere Marquette Park.
This tour utilizes city streets but has one small set of stairs at the end and is not accessible.
