Did you know that the tiny fruit flies that sometimes plague the ripe bananas in your fruit bowl are helping us understand how our bodies form and how diseases arise? From understanding the nature of genes and genetic inheritance, how brains process information to how our cells know when to multiply or not, the humble fly Drosophila melanogaster has been at the heart of biological research since the early 1900s. Join Nic Tapon on a journey of discovery through the history of fly research right up to the latest hot-off-the-press work going on at the Crick today.
The talk will be followed by a Q&A session, when Nic will be happy to answer any audience questions.
About Nic
Nic "discovered” the wonderful world of flies over 25 years ago in a lab in Boston, Massachusetts and hasn’t looked back since. He has been running a lab studying how organism size is controlled since 2003, first at the Cancer Research UK London Research Institute, then at the Francis Crick Institute.
Please note that the talk will start at 10am sharp, latecomers will not be admitted.
