Join Creative Edinburgh's monthly meetup of creative conversations, socialising and community updates!Hosted by Creative Edinburgh , Creative Circles runs every month. For May, we're in-person.
This event is a casual monthly meetup for creatives, techies, makers, students, freelance folk and everyone in between who is interested in discovering more about what's happening in Edinburgh. Take a break from work, share ideas and advice, make new connections, and find your next collaborator.
May’s Conversation: Exploring AI
In this month’s Creative Circles, we’re partnering with Scottish AI Alliance to explore the concept of “artificial intelligence”, unpicking Scotland’s AI Strategy and how it applies to the world of creative freelancing, and create a space for the community to feed into and steer the national AI Strategy.

About our Speaker
Scottish AI Alliance
The Scottish AI Alliance is the delivery body for Scotland’s AI Strategy, a partnership between The Data Lab and the Scottish Government, with a vision to ensure that Scotland becomes a leader in the development and use of trustworthy, ethical and inclusive AI.

To reach trustworthy, ethical and inclusive AI, the Scottish AI Alliance works to involve everyone who will be impacted by AI technologies in the conversations around AI.
With the rise in prominence of Generative AI and its impact on creative work, this conversation should include creative freelancers.
This event will cover AI literacy, the advantages and disadvantages of AI tools, how to see through the jargon on AI, as well as exploring the wider industry and societal impacts.
We will then host a discursive session on what “trustworthy, ethical & inclusive AI” means to the creative freelance community, setting out key recommendations on how people can be at the centre of AI, which will inform the delivery of Scotland’s AI Strategy.

16:30 - 16:45: Welcome everyone to the session & introduction from Creative Edinburgh
16:45 - 18:20: Discussion from Scottish AI Alliance, which will cover:
- The Basics of AI: the main concepts and words we use when talking about AI.
- Demystifying AI: the scale and scope of AI technologies, and how they are used across society
- Scotland’s AI Strategy: the work being done around trustworthy, ethical and inclusive AI in Scotland
- Creative Community Feedback: discussion forum around AI & creativity
- Creative Community Needs : exploring the information and support that creatives need around AI
- What’s next? : signposting next steps around creativity & AI
