Creative and wellbeing workshops for Afghan and Syrian women and children

Join us for a warm and welcoming series of creative and wellbeing workshops for Afghan and Syrian women and children, with an open invitation to women with children from other communities who wish to learn more about Afghan and Syrian culture, crafts, and traditions.

These monthly sessions are part of Centrala’s Community Wellbeing Programme and offer a space to create, connect, and relax together. Families will explore heritage and identity through hands-on art and craft activities, inspired by Afghan and Syrian designs and stories — while also discovering new cultures and meeting new friends.

Each session will include:
Creative activities such as pattern making, embroidery, collage, and calligraphy art
Storytelling and cultural sharing through craft and conversation
Gentle wellbeing exercises for women and children, using colour, relaxation, and mindful play
Hot drinks and snacks provided, along with all art materials

Workshops will be co-designed with participants, so ideas from the Afghan and Syrian communities are especially welcome — your stories, traditions, and suggestions will help shape what we create together.

All activities will be supported with translated guides and language cards in Dari, Pashto, and Arabic, ensuring everyone can take part easily and comfortably.

Led by Monika Lenard, who has over 20 years of experience working with migrant communities — especially women and children, these sessions are designed to bring people together through art, culture, and shared wellbeing.
