Meera will be sharing clips from from Episode 2 of Afghan Star: “Angels of Peace". The series begins by following the life of Daoud Sediqi who grew up obsessed with music and television, only to have it all ripped away from him when the Taliban banned music in 1996. The Taliban would torture, K*ll, or imprison people for disobeying the rules, but Daoud couldn’t live in silence. He began hosting dance parties in secret and he even joined an underground smuggling network to help repair VCRs and keep movies alive. Then he decided to bring music back for everyone.

Meera Kumar (she/her) is a British Podcast Award and Lovie Award winning producer and Ambie nominee who lives and works in London. She was recently named one of Radio Academy’s 30 Under 30 and Best Entertainment Producer in the Audio Production Awards, and has produced stories for the BBC, Sony Music, Universal, CBC, iHeart, and Love + Radio amongst others. Most recently, Meera produced Afghan Star, hosted by John Legend which has been selected as one of the Best Podcasts of 2024 (The Week), was featured on CNN and The Daily Show, and is currently shortlisted for Best Podcast in the Future of Media Awards.
