Crags and Summits: Blackrock Mountain

End your month on a true high note! Join Phyllis and Vickey for a thrilling 4.46-mile out-and-back trek along the rugged backbone of the Plott Balsam Range. Starting near Waterrock Knob, we will plunge right into a dense, high-elevation spruce-fir forest as we tackle this intermediate-to-advanced trail. Featuring an 820-foot elevation profile, the path challenges hikers with steep rock steps, narrow passages, and exposed roots. We’ll cross the mountain ridge, navigating impressive, ancient rock formations before stepping out onto the narrow rocky summit of Blackrock Mountain itself. The dramatic, 360-degree panoramic views across the Greater Balsams and all the way to the Great Smokies make every technical step entirely worth the effort.
