Craft as a meditative practice

This intimate gathering will be one part meditation class, one part craft workshop and one part interactive craft exhibition.

Your host will be Trish Talob, a meditation teacher and artist-researcher who explores the question: "What can traditional crafts that continue to thrive in a machine-made world teach humans about staying human in a digital world?” (https://www.instagram.com/daily.warosoku/)

You will guided through a number of meditative rituals by Trish

• You will learn meditation techniques that involve mindfully observing and interacting with handcrafted objects
• You will mindfully make a set of hand-rolled beeswax candles that you can use for meditation and other mindfulness activities.

Between the meditative rituals, Trish will showcase a range of handcrafted objects from her own creative projects and Japanese craft collection. Through stories about these objects, you will learn about the enduring importance of craft in today’s digital, machine-made world.

By the end of this gathering, you will have...

• Meditation techniques you can use to quieten your busy mind and focus on being present
• A set of meditation candles you can use in your own time
• A new perspective on craft (and perhaps some inspiration to use or make craft objects as a mindful activity)

Location

2nd floor of the Simply Native store. Please note that the event space can only be accessed via stairs.

What will be provided

• Materials for making hand-rolled beeswax candles
• Tea
• A summary of the meditation techniques will be emailed to you after the event

What to bring
Just bring yourself! No craft or meditation/mindfulness experience required.
