Tooth pain has been described as one of the severest forms of pain experienced by humans, and can be debilitating affecting patients of all ages. Diagnosing the source of this pain can often be a challenge, diagnostic tools are useful but numerous and the process overwhelming. Accurate diagnosis is essential to the success of treatment. This session will provide a review and understanding of the sources of endodontic pain and the diagnostic tools and methods, including CBCT/radiographic imaging, used to accurately diagnose the etiology. Various clinical cases will be discussed with the focus on accurate diagnosis, treatment, and complication management. The dental team will be provided with clinically applicable information to crack the pain code.

About our Speaker:
Dr. Joseph V. Quevedo graduated from Muhlenberg College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology before receiving his DDS with Thesis Honors from the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. He conducted research at Buffalo Children’s Hospital and then completed a General Practice residency at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, CT. Dr. Quevedo went on to complete a 3-year post-doctoral residency in endodontics at the University of Connecticut, School of Dental Medicine. He received a Master of Science degree in dental science completing research in scanning electron microscopy. He completed his implant training at the University of Buffalo, School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Quevedo is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Periodontics and Endodontics at the University at Buffalo, School of Dental Medicine. He has held faculty positions as Clinical Professor in the Department of Endodontics and Periodontology at the University of Connecticut, School of Dental Medicine and as Clinical Professor in the Department of Dentistry at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Dr. Quevedo is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics and a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. He holds memberships in the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Endodontics, Academy of Osseointegration, International Team for Implantology (ITI), International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI), Academy of Microscope Enhanced Dentistry, the University of Buffalo Implant Study Club, the American Association of Endodontists, the American Dental Association, New York State Dental Association., 7 th District Dental Society and Monroe County Dental Society. Dr. Quevedo’s research interests included biomaterials and scanning electron microscopy. He maintains a private practice, Quevedo Endodontics and Implantology, PC. He has utilized the surgical operating microscope in his private practice for the past 30 years. He has developed unique microscope driven treatment techniques for improved treatment outcomes including, regenerative endodontics, minimally invasive extractions, immediate implant placement, socket shielding and vertical sinus lifts. He has lectured nationally for universities, residency programs and continuing education programs on topics related to the specialties of endodontics and implant dentistry.
