Crabtree Nature Center Express Bus

Celebrate the joy of birding together as BIPOC folks while also enjoying and learning at the nature center.

Humboldt Park Fieldhouse and Parking Lot:

1440 N Humboldt Blvd, Chicago, IL 60647 - Near public transit, bike racks, and Free Parking!

The Nature Express Bus, graciously provided by the Forest Preserve District of Cook County, will pick us up at the Humboldt Park Fieldhouse at 7:45 am and depart at 8 am to drive us to Crabtree Nature Center for a bird and nature outing with local bipoc birder, Sammy Cabindol. Please bring a lunch with you or snacks to eat on the bus (eating and/or picnicking are not permitted in the nature center). The bus will depart Crabtree at 12 pm to drive us back to Humboldt Park which will take about an hour to return. You are welcome to drive yourself if necessary but we did receive a grant for this bus and hope to be able to fill it so that in future years the Forest Preserves is inclined to continue to partner with us in this way.

This trip is designed to be a slow-paced, social bird outing. We will walk roughly 1.5 miles of trails on mostly grass and natural dirt substrate with recurring inclines, declines, and occasional obstacles including uneven terrain and root heave. Dress for the weather and wear sensible shoes. Restrooms and water fountains are available inside the nature center building. Cell reception is regularly available. Loaner binoculars will be available

The Nature Express Bus service offers a standard full-size school bus that may not accommodate wheelchairs.

No pets are permitted at the nature center.
