About this Event

Join us for an interactive exploration into the fascinating question: why do people commit crime?

This session introduces key ideas from criminology and psychology, examining how both society and the individual shape behaviour.

Through activities, discussion, and case studies, you’ll explore:

  • The social and psychological factors influencing criminal behaviour
  • Classic and modern theories — from Beccaria and Bentham’s rational choice theory to Lombroso’s “born criminal” concept
  • Sociological perspectives such as strain, labelling, and learning theories
  • Psychological explanations, including Freud’s psychoanalytic approach, Eysenck’s personality theory, and cognitive theories of distorted thinking
  • How combining these perspectives can create a fuller understanding of crime and inform social work, psychology, and criminal justice practice

Expect an engaging mix of group activities, theory, and reflection designed to give you a real taste of studying our degree course at university level.

This session will be held at Lincoln College, Monks Road, Lincoln, LN2 5HQ.

There is no on-site parking available, so please use local pay-and-display options nearby. A member of our team will be there to meet you at the main reception.
