About this Event
Pet Therapy 101
A Good Therapy Dog Helps Make the World a Better Place.
Could Your Dog Do That Too?
Have you ever wondered if your dog might have what it takes to bring comfort and joy to others?
Join us for an informative and engaging session about the world of therapy dogs—the specially trained dogs who visit hospitals, schools, libraries, senior centers, and community organizations to brighten people’s days.
During this program you’ll learn:
- The difference between service dogs, emotional support animals, and therapy dogs
- The traits that make a dog a good therapy dog candidate
- The role and responsibilities of a therapy dog handler
- The steps involved in becoming a registered therapy dog team
- Where and when therapy dogs visit
- The many benefits therapy dogs provide to individuals and communities
Our presenter is Sandra Lok, past president and current member of Tails of Joy, a Manchester-based nonprofit that supports and connects registered therapy dog teams. Sandy has been volunteering with her therapy dogs throughout our community since 2008 and will share stories, insights, and practical guidance for those curious about getting involved.
She will also be joined by one of her therapy dogs for the presentation.
Please note:
For the comfort and safety of everyone attending, please leave your own dogs at home for this event.
Come learn how therapy dogs make a meaningful difference—and whether you and your dog might be the next great therapy team.
