About this Event

Under The Canopy: A Black August Sanctuary of Urban Maroonage

This Black August, we are not waiting for perfect, pristine conditions to practice our medicine or claim our freedom. Our ancestors built sanctuary in the margins, using whatever the land provided to survive and resist. We are doing the same.

Join Dominicans Love Haitians Movement for a free three-hour outdoor ritual of ancestral remembrance, spiritual cleansing, and community care for Black and Afro-diasporic people—where you leave with a collective spiritual bath.

Space is strictly capped at 20 participants per session to keep the container intimate, raw, and highly protective.

The Ritual Requirements:
  • Bring Your Own Vessel: We aren't doing pretty packaging. Bring a mismatched recycled jar, an old pasta container, or a clean plastic bottle from home. We fill our containers directly from the collective pot.

RSVP IS MANDATORY.

Under The Canopy is presented by Dominicans Love Haitians Movement with generous support from the NYC Green Fund, NYC Parks Department, and Partnerships for Parks.
