Contact Improvisation Belfast | Movement and Dance Practice | Workshop and Jam

Contact improvisation (CI) is a practice of movement where improvisation and momentum, relation with gravity and with others are the main focus. This form has been developing internationally since 1972 and it started from the exploration, research and inquiries of Steve Paxton. It involves the exploration of one's body in relation to others and the space of presence they visit, by using the fundamentals of sharing weight, touch, and movement awareness.

The CI Belfast group has been gathering since January 2024 and we're now keen for more to join the community.

In the two hour session we'll work through warm-up exercises and then finish with a jam where we can put our movements into practice.

The sessions are suitable for newcomers.

Suggested clothing: Ideally knees and elbows should be covered to prevent abbrasion injuries.

Location: Liminal Space Studioes at Blackstaff Mill. Search for "Springfield Autos Blackstaff Mill" into Google Maps. When you arrive look for Springfield Autos sign, turn to your right and there is an entrance to the building. It has a sign for a snooker club. Go all the way to the top and the studio is the first door you come to.
