Cooking With Kids: Sloppy Joes, Mac & Cheese, and Cupcake Decorating

Bring the family into the kitchen for a hands-on cooking experience designed for all ages. Join food writer and chef instructor Shawnie Kelley for an interactive class that focuses on simple techniques, shared tasks, and creating a full meal together.

You and your child work side by side in a structured, supportive environment while preparing familiar, crowd-pleasing dishes from scratch. This class focuses on building confidence, basic kitchen skills, and having fun through cooking.

Lunch is served at the conclusion of class with a complimentary beverage.

On the Menu:

• Beef Sloppy Joes – sliders with a scratch-made tomato-based sauce
• Baked Mac and Cheese – a blend of cheeses baked until golden and bubbly
• Cupcakes – vanilla and chocolate cupcakes decorated with piped frosting

• Time: 11:00 AM
• Location: Mitchell Hall, Columbus State Community College
• Price: $125 (includes one adult and one child)
• Additional child: $25

What to Wear:

• Wear long pants
• Flat, closed-toe shoes are required
• Sandals, flip-flops, and high heels are not permitted
• Long hair must be pulled back
• You will be standing and cooking for extended periods

What to Bring:

• Optional: child-sized apron
• Optional: step stool if needed
• Adult aprons are provided

Parking:
Parking directly behind Mitchell Hall is currently unavailable.

Parking options:

• Off-street parking in front of Mitchell Hall
• Lot directly across from Mitchell Hall (15-E, BEST)

A parking fee may apply. Visitors may park using the Parking.com app. Signs in each lot provide instructions.

Cancellation Policy (The Mix):
If you need to cancel your class booking, you can do so up to 48 hours before the class and receive a refund or class credit. If The Mix cancels a class for any reason, you will be notified immediately by phone or email and may switch to another class of equal value or receive a full refund.

All class reservations are first-come, first-served. No refunds are issued after a class has been held. The Mix reserves the right to substitute instructors or modify any class when necessary.
