If you’re fond of dunes and salty air, and quaint little villages here and there, then this Taste of Cape Cod class is the perfect coastal escape. Join food writer and author of Discover Cape Cod, Shawnie Kelley, as she leads you through a hands-on culinary journey inspired by the flavors of New England.

You’ll begin by learning how to prepare classic lobster rolls, starting with boiling and extracting the meat from the tail, then crafting a traditional Maine-style lobster salad served on a warm, buttery bun. Next, dive into Shawnie’s original recipe for brothy clam chowder, brimming with clams, tender potatoes, and finished with crispy bacon crumbles—it’s sure to become a staple in your kitchen!

For dessert, discover the charm of blueberry buckle—a classic New England coffee-cake-like treat topped with sweet streusel. Shawnie will explain the delicious differences between buckle, cobbler, crumble, crisp, and slump as part of a discussion on Cape Cod’s regional food traditions.

Please wear long pants and flat, closed-toe shoes for your safety. Long hair should be tied back. You will be standing and cooking for most of the class, so we recommend wearing comfortable shoes. Sandals, flip-flops, and high heels are not permitted in Columbus State kitchens.

Nuts, shellfish, and other common allergens are frequently used in our kitchens. We will do our best to accommodate your needs, but please note that adjustments cannot be made during class.

If you need to cancel your class booking, you may do so up to 48 hours before the class to receive a refund or class credit. If The Mix must cancel a class for any reason, you will be notified by phone or email and offered the option to reschedule or receive a full refund.
