About this Event

This free, virtual cooking class is for families looking to break up the routine and learn new techniques in the kitchen together. Cooking Matters allows participants to cook in the comfort of their homes with ingredients and instructions supplied by Rick’s Place and The Poe Center for Health Education.
Registered participants will pick up food kits from Rick’s Place with all the ingredients needed for the program, then log into a Zoom session where an instructor leads them step-by-step through the recipe. Each session is a different recipe where participants will learn tips, tricks, and hacks they can apply to their cooking and grocery shopping.
Cooking Matters is most suitable for adults cooking with children between the ages of 4 to 12. However, it is up to each adult participant to assess the ability of younger participants and apply safety rules accordingly. Classes are easy to moderate skill levels to allow young chefs to help in the kitchen too!
Classes are offered one Wednesday per month, at 11 am and 4 pm.
- Recipe: Chili
Participants must have the ability to log into a virtual class over Zoom.
This program is free of charge to service members and their families. Registration opens for each session 2 weeks before that session’s start date.
You will be asked for proof of Military Affiliation at the food-kit pick-up for this program. Have your Military ID available. If you have any questions about what qualifies as proof of affiliation, please reach out to the team at Rick’s Place.
Each family is required to register for this program, with only 1 ticket needed per family. The start and end times are prompt. Showing up late means less detailed instructions on the project. Parents need to stay with their children for the duration of the program.
