Skillet Gap was formed in Boone, NC by several friends who wanted to play traditional old time tunes with a creative and energetic punch. The band draws influences from traditional sources throughout the region as well as modern interpretations of old tunes. Two members currently live in Mars Hill, NC and the third, Ben Banick, lives in the Burningtown area of Franklin.
Charlotte Crittenden is a top-favorite caller for dances in Western NC and beyond.
Beginners are strongly encouraged to arrive by 6:30pm for the instruction, and experienced dancers are keen to help those new to contra dance get started with the moves. The dance is from 7-9pm. A suggested donation of $10 per person goes to pay the band and caller; kids age 14 & under are free; children over age 8 who are game to participate, or sit and watch with an adult may also attend.
Bring a closed water container and a snack if you choose. Smooth-soled shoes work best for dancing on wood floors. Please do not wear perfume or other scents to the dances.
