The Canadian Association of Consulting Quantity Surveyors is launching the 3rd edition of its Cost Management Best Practices Guide.
There will be three launch events, one in each of Ontario, British Columbia and the Prairies. Each event will have a “meet and greet” component followed by a panel discussing some of the key changes in the Best Practices Guide.
We hope to see you at the BC launch event on November 6th at the Steamworks Brewpub, 375 Water Street, Vancouver BC - Harbour View Room.
5:30 to 6:30 - "Meet and Greet" reception. Come and reconnect with your colleagues and some special guests.
6:30 to 7:00 - panel discussion of some of the changes to the Best Practices Guide.
- Panel moderator will be Angela Lai.
Angela is the secretary of the CACQS/ACCEC and the managing partner of Core Two Management Group in Vancouver, BC, overseeing the strategic direction of the company and their proficient team of professionals, and providing consulting services for the construction and property industries.
Angela is a well-recognized educator and academic. After graduating from the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa with a Bachelor of Science degree in quantity surveying and a master’s degree in property development and management, she pursued a full-time career as a lecturer, working for prestigious universities in South Africa and the U.K. She is currently an instructor at British Columbia’s Institute of Technology (BCIT), the School of Construction and the Environment, and Passive House Canada. Angela is also a facilitator/instructor for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), and the chair of assessors for the RICS’s professional exams. Angela has held many board director positions including the Canadian Institution of Quantity Surveyors (CIQS), the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), and was most recently elected to the board of directors for the Canadian Association of Consulting Quantity Surveyors (CACQS).
Panelists:
- Jonathan Meads
Jonathan is Vice President of StreetSide Developments, the multi-family division of the Qualico Group. Jonathan has held the post for five years. StreetSide has been building townhomes, low and high-rise condos and mixed-use projects in the lower mainland for over 10 years but is part of a company that has been building for 75 years. Awarded Multi-Family Homebuilder of the Year by CHBA BC, this year StreetSide’s other significant milestone was the completion of the first 5 of 18 Net Zero Ready townhomes, a first in the Fraser valley.
Jonathan has over 25 years’ experience in real estate development and construction. Prior to becoming VP Jonathan was Senior Development Manager for 2+ years, after 11 years with Concert Properties. He has worked in both Canada and the UK, with experience in wood, concrete and steel residential and commercial construction. Jonathan has a Diploma in Building Studies, a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Building Surveying, he is a Chartered Surveyor and holds his LEED AP designation. Jonathan has been a member of various HAVAN, UDI and municipal committees for many years and remains engaged with BC Housing and other government bodies. He is passionate about building better buildings and continual learning.
- Ken King
For the past 47 years, Ken has been intimately involved with the construction and public infrastructure development in British Columbia and Alberta. Professionally trained and qualified as a Quantity Surveyor, Ken also has two diplomas in Urban Land Economics from the University of British Columbia (UBC), one in Appraisal and one in Real Estate Management. With this background, Ken has lectured at Vancouver Community College, Langara College, Douglas College, the University of Alberta and UBC. He has also presented programs featuring mortgage underwriting skills, consulting skills, public speaking and management techniques to such institutions as Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, Business Development Bank of Canada, Veterans Affairs Canada and the Certified General Accountants of British Columbia to name just a few.
Ken has successfully delivered quantity surveying, project management and development management services to a wide range of P3, public and private sector transportation and building projects with a combined construction value well in excess of 30 billion dollars.
Ken’s work experience includes 12 years with Hanscomb Limited and contract and consulting roles for a number of companies and institutions, including, but not limited to Assistant Director (Cost Management Services) for Alberta Infrastructure, Project Manager for the Territory of Nunavut and a Quantity Surveyor (Facilities and Properties) for the City of Vancouver.
Each ticket entitles you to a drink from the bar, appetizers and a copy of the Best Practices Guide. There will be a cash bar for those who wish more than one alcoholic beverage.
