About this Event

First proposed in 2012, the Constitution Pipeline went through a thorough review and in 2016 New York State denied the project when it declined to issue a 401 Water Quality Certificate (WQC) for the pipeline. The “new” permit application submitted to FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission) makes no substantive changes from its 2013 application.

Communities should not have to keep fighting the same dangerous projects OVER AND OVER simply because corporations refuse to accept NO for an answer!

Constitution proposes approximately 124 miles of new 30-inch diameter interstate gas pipeline that would extend from the fracking fields of northeastern Pennsylvania (Susquahanna County) into Broome, Chenango, Delaware, and Schoharie Counties in New York; terminating at the Wright Compressor Station in the Town of Wright. Which would increase substantially in size.

In Schohaire County the pipeline is proposed to run 33 miles through Jefferson, Summit, Richmondville, Cobleskill, Middleburgh, Schoharie and Wright​.​

Along its 124 mile length The Constitution Pipeline will:

• Require the clearing of 1,872 acres of land.
• Destroy approximately 700,000 trees on 1,034 acres of forest.
• Cross 289 bodies of water, most of them cold-water trout streams.
• Impact over 95 acres of wetlands, of which 34 acres are irreplaceable forested wetlands.
• Climb or descend over 35 miles of steep slopes.
• Blast through 45.5 miles of shallow bedrock, and provide gas for factories, power plants, and AI data centers all along the I-88 corridor.

There is no doubt that this pipeline is an invitation for fossil fuel dependent development. Williams, the parent company of Constitution, is in the business of data centers; big ones. Rural communities across the country are being targeted and these projects are popping up all over. This pipeline will rip a literal tear through our communities, forests, streams, and meadows - along with destroying our ability to protect our water resources and clean air now and in the future.
