Bassoonist Alex Widstrand, in collaboration with pianist Alex Woods and oboist Christa Garvey, presents a selection of bassoon music from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. This repertoire offers a glimpse of the manifold creative activity of students, faculty, and other musicians affiliated with prominent music conservatories in Paris, Brussels, Tbilisi, Philadelphia, and Timișoara. Program highlights include the American premiere of the fiery Scherzo by the Georgian composer Nino Janjghava and the world premiere of the Trio in F Major by the Belgian composer and piano prodigy Alexander Stadtfeld, a hidden gem that has gone unperformed since its completion nearly 180 years ago. The program also features compositions by Josef Vendelín Hájek, Romeo Cascarino, and Marc Vaubourgoin.The University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire Department of Music and Theatre Arts presents a performance in Phillips Recital Hall at the Haas Fine Arts Center (121 Water Street Eau Claire, WI 54703) Admission is FREE. Doors open 15 minutes before start time.
