About this Event

Join us for a walk and talk event to the Lough Shannagh area near Doan, along the Ott Track. You'll see firsthand the important work of the PEAT+ Project that will protect and restore large areas of upland peatland that are vital carbon sinks and water catchments, while climate change, wildfire and recreation present increasing challenges. These areas host a variety of important species that survive in the wet acidic soils such as hares tail cotton grass, sundew and sphagnum moss and fauna such as keeled skimmer dragonfly, snipe and meadow pipet. Learn about the techniques to slow erosion, raise the water table, protect exposed peat hags and the controlled use of sheep and cattle to assist the recovery of biodiversity.
