About this Event
Conservation Crafting: Next Level Upcycling
Hosted by Naturalist Tasha & GBN Kimi Takikawa
Mason Mill Recreation Center (Upper Level)
Saturday, February 7 | 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Begin the year creating wearable art from repurposed Southwest Airlines leather. In this eco-inspired workshop, we explore hands-on design techniques while crafting earrings and bracelets that reflect your favorite Georgia native animals and landscape features across eco-regions (the distinct natural areas of our state shaped by landforms, climate, plants, and wildlife).
Guided by GBN Kimi Takikawa and DeKalb County Park Naturalist Tasha Messer, you’ll shape, paint, and assemble bold or subtle creative reuse and nature inspiration jewelry pieces. You’ll leave with three pieces: one to keep, one to gift, and one to share forward.
This is a cozy, communal creative space—where conversation, shared snacks, and imagination move as freely as the paint.

What We’ll Do
Settle in at a shared table where leather, paint, tools, and imagination wait. This is a space designed for you to create freely, at your own pace, surrounded by other curious and creative minds. Materials will be available, gentle guidance offered when needed, and plenty of room for your ideas to unfold naturally. Conversation will flow, inspiration will pass from seat to seat, and by the end of the afternoon, your table space will be scattered with color, character, and pieces that carry your own creative story.
What to Bring
Bring your favorite sweet or savory snack to share—the kind of treat that makes a table feel warm and welcoming. As we craft, we’ll nibble, chat, and settle into that cozy rhythm where creativity and comfort naturally go hand in hand.
Wear
Comfortable clothing suitable for crafting and safe to wear in case of incidental paint or material contact.
Recommended Ages
Designed for adults and older youth. All ages welcome.
