Most of us believe we see the world as it really is. But what if our perceptions are being shaped by influences we can't see?
In this thought-provoking talk, Bron Williams explores the hidden world of unconscious bias through personal stories and years of PhD research into the intersection of bias and shame. Beginning with a life-changing experience working with asylum seekers on Nauru, Bron shares how discovering her own blindspots led her to question long-held assumptions about herself and others.
Together, we'll explore why intelligent, well-intentioned people can hold biases they never consciously chose, how childhood experiences shape adult perceptions, and why two people can experience the same event and walk away with entirely different interpretations.
This is not a talk about blame or political correctness. It's an invitation to better understand how being human works - and how greater awareness can lead to more thoughtful decisions, richer relationships, and deeper compassion.

Bron Williams is a speaker, educator, and researcher who helps people reconnect with their inner authority and lead with clarity, courage, and integrity.
With a background spanning education, ministry, and leadership, Bron has served as a school principal, an ordained minister, and worked alongside asylum seekers in complex and often confronting environments. These experiences have shaped her deep understanding of human behaviour, resilience, and the unseen forces that influence how we see ourselves and others.
Currently undertaking PhD research exploring the intersection of bias and shame, Bron brings both academic insight and lived experience to her work. She has partnered with organisations across corporate, government, and community sectors — including Unilever, The Salvation Army, and Tennis Australia — helping leaders recognise hidden patterns that shape decision-making, relationships, and culture.
A gifted storyteller, Bron has a unique ability to translate complex ideas into accessible and deeply engaging insights. Her work invites people to reflect honestly, think differently, and step more fully into who they are.
Having reshaped her own life and career more than once, Bron understands the courage it takes to move beyond expectation and into authenticity.
