Confidence Boosting with Obstacles

Join Anna, equine psychologist and Monty Robert’s Certified Instructor, where you will be guided through a unique obstacle course, learning how to tackle objects you come across daily such as road works, bins and plastic in a calm and relaxed manner.

Horses are flight animals and often, when faced with something new or unfamiliar, their response is to flee, spook or freeze (shutdown) and then nap, often unnerving or unseating the rider or handler. This creates further fear in the horse and subsequently the rider/handler, where their synchronised heart rate continues to increase, creating a cycle that can be hard to break. By learning how to break things down, with positive reinforcement, you will see how easy it is to de-sensitise your horse to anything, creating confidence and strengthening the partnership between you both.

This clinic focuses on the importance of teaching your horse to lead correctly, through feel, before being presented with a variety of obstacles and how to tackle them calmly together. Here you will learn the importance of building a solid foundation and why, when this is lacking, common problems arise such as non-loaders, spooking, napping, bolting and barging.

These simple, yet effective leading exercises will then be applied to Anna’s well-known obstacle course, where she will work with you one-on-one to obtain a better connection where the horse responds rather than reacts as you navigate the course.

This clinic is suitable for all horses and owners, at any level. Designed to facilitate learning in a fun and relaxed atmosphere without time constraints, focusing on the individual needs of horse and owner.

This can be done on the ground or ridden, however due to the level of difficulty with some of the obstacles, it’s strongly advised to start with the groundwork. Those wanting to participate as ridden, please contact Anna to discuss before booking. If you have already participated in one of my clinics, you can go straight into ridden.
