Compton Gap hike at SNP

Join me in Shenandoah National Park for a hike to a unique geological rock formation called columnar jointing.
We will meet at the trailhead parking area along Skyline Dr (Milepost 10.4, closest to the Front Royal entrance to the park, in the Northern District). Note that the parking lot only has 14 spaces and fills up quickly so car pool if you can.
The hike itself is a moderate 2.4 mile out and back, mostly rocky hike with elevation gaim of approximately 679 ft. The hike generally takes 1.5 to 2 hrs to complete but Ill take lots of photos so plan for at least 2 hrs.
There is a $30 fee to access Shenandoah National Park unless you have an annual pass (another reason to car pool...find someone with a pass!).
I also plan to do some hiking in the park Saturday afternoon and evening, but unsure of exact times or locations as of yet but happy to share info once I know it, if folks are going to be in that area.
