Class Description:
In this free workshop you will learn:
- What compost is and how it helps to build healthy soil
- How to use compost in the garden and the benefits of making compost at home
- Overview of different approaches for composting at home
- How hot composting and worm composting work
This in-person session will take place indoors at Pickering Barn and will include a lecture and discussion. Class size is limited to 50 people and is free to attend. We recommend bringing something to take notes with. Participants will be contacted after the event to recieve workshop-related resources and complete a brief survey.
Food Waste Prevention Week is a national and statewide campaign intended to educate and inspire action through community, collaboration, and collective energy to drive real results in reducing food waste. In Washington, an estimated 1.1 million tons of food waste is generated annually, including 400,000 tons of edible food that gets disposed of in landfills. When food is wasted, so are the resources and labor used to grow, harvest, process, transport, and manage the food from farm to table. We encourage all residents to observe this week by committing to reduce food waste in their homes, workplaces, and communities.
Tilth Alliance is a local Seattle area nonprofit that works in community with Washington farmers, gardeners, and eaters to build a sustainable, healthy, and equitable food future.
