UTC-05:00Location
5210 College Rd, Key West, FL, United States, Florida 33040 | Key West, FL
Help reduce waste and contribute to healthy soil by bringing your food scraps to our Compost Drop-off station — available every 3rd Saturday, during our Native Plant Sale.
This monthly program is an opportunity to learn how composting supports our island community and explore practical ways to reduce household waste. Visitors can walk through our Compost Village, where we showcase several outdoor composting methods, including:
🌿 Traditional outdoor compost bins
🌿 Open-air composting systems
🌿 Vermicomposting (worm composting) as a living example of soil creation
You’ll see firsthand how each system works and which ones may be a good fit for your home outdoor space.
We also offer finished compost made right here at the Garden — rich, living soil perfect for nourishing your own home gardens and container plants.
Accepted:
✔ Fruits & vegetables
✔ Plain grains (pasta, bread, rice)
✔ Coffee grounds
✔ Egg shells
✔ Frozen scraps (preferred)
Not Accepted:
✘ Meat
✘ Dairy
✘ Oily foods
Through hands-on demonstrations provided by UF/IFAS Master Gardeners and real examples, you’ll learn how we transform everyday kitchen scraps into nutrient-rich compost that supports our native plant nursery and strengthens gardens throughout Key West.
