Community Tree Care: Turkey Thicket Tree Care for Ward 5 Day

Join Casey Trees, the office of Councilman Zachary Parker, and Medstar Health for a fun day of service around Turkey Thicket Recreation Center!

We will be mulching and weeding newly planted trees around the playground, field, and recreation center. Afterwards, stay for music, games, giveaways, and more at the Ward 5 Day celebration.

Your help caring for these vulnerable trees will give them a leg up in becoming an important part of our growing tree canopy.

We will provide all the necessary tools and supplies to care for trees. Participants will receive a short, hands-on training on-site. After learning the tools and techniques, volunteers begin caring for trees throughout the park.

Register now! Two days before this event, we will send a logistics and directions email with detailed information about how to get to the site.

Requirements

Register: Register in advance. If your plans change prior to the event, please update your registration status so we are sure to have the necessary number of volunteers.

Waiver: All volunteers must pre-register and sign a completed volunteer waiver form BEFORE participating in the Tree Care event.

Youth Volunteers: Youth volunteers may participate with an adult supervisor .

Clothes and shoes: Dress comfortably and appropriately for the weather. We recommend long pants and other protections for sun, bugs and poison ivy. Please wear closed-toed shoes, boots are preferred over sneakers.

Skills: No specific skills or tools required. Each event starts with a tool safety and planting demonstration. Volunteers work alongside experienced staff.

Water: Bring a full water bottle!

Animals: No animals are allowed at the event except for service animals.

What to expect:

9:30am - Check-in opens

10:00am - Opening remarks and tool safety demo

10:15am - Work begins caring for trees!
