About this Event

Akeelah and the Bee: A Community Film Experience

Join us for a special screening of Akeelah and the Bee, a heartfelt story about courage, community, and the power of believing in yourself.

Follow 11-year-old Akeelah Anderson as she discovers her gift for spelling and embarks on a journey from her South Los Angeles neighborhood to the national spelling bee stage. Along the way, she learns that success is not achieved alone, but through mentorship, friendship, and the support of a community that believes in her potential.

This gathering is more than a movie night. It’s an opportunity to celebrate young dreamers, lifelong learners, and the village of people who help us rise.

Enjoy film-inspired snacks prepared by Chefs Ederique Goudia and Chi Walker, bringing the story from the screen to the table.

Bring your family, friends, and neighbors for an evening of film, connection, and inspiration.

Special thanks to our partners at United Dairy Industry of Michigan, Indigo Culinary, and The Joy Project for helping bring this community experience to life.
