Community Lovefeast in Celebration of America’s 250th anniversary

Lovefeasts are a beloved Moravian tradition. Lovefeasts originated in the first gatherings of Christians after Pentecost. The early believers met and broke bread together, signifying their union and equality. Even though this tradition stopped at the end of the 4th century, it was reinstituted in the Moravian Church in 1727 following a spiritual renewal of the church. It was developed into a joyful service, whose message is primarily conveyed through the hymn texts. The “meal” isn’t consecrated so anyone can participate. At Emmaus Moravian, we serve a baked bun made from raised potato dough and a small beverage.
