About this Event
Immigration policy and enforcement are often discussed at a national level—but their real impacts are felt locally, within our own communities. This Community Conversations event is designed to provide a clear, accessible introduction to how immigration enforcement works, what rights individuals have, and how communities can stay informed and prepared.
Jorge Mendez of Virginia Organizing will guide the discussion, drawing on his experience leading “Know Your Rights” workshops and community-based organizing efforts across Virginia. This conversation is specifically tailored for a general audience—no prior knowledge is expected. We will focus on breaking down complex topics, clarifying common misconceptions, and creating space for thoughtful, respectful dialogue.
The event will begin with a short overview of key concepts, followed by guided discussion and opportunities for questions and discussion with neighbors. Attendees will leave with a better understanding of immigration enforcement, practical knowledge of individual rights, and awareness of local resources.
This is not a legal training or advocacy workshop—it is an educational space aimed at increasing understanding, reducing confusion, and strengthening community awareness.
Free and open to the public.
