About this Event

Kick off the Chokecherry Collaborative efforts for 2026 with an evening at the Longmont Museum to learn about the Collaborative and hear from Northern Arapaho partners about the significance of Chokecherry for cultural ceremonies and food sovereignty.

This initiative is a uniquely local partnership between Wildlands Restoration Volunteers and Community Fruit Rescue, the City of Longmont, the Wyoming Food Bank and the Northern Arapaho Tribe located on the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming. For the past couple of years, we have partnered with Jackie White of the Wyoming Food Bank and other Northern Arapaho members to organize volunteer chokecherry fruit collections and provided the fruit to the tribe for culturally significant and traditional food use. Some fruit is also processed into chokecherry jelly which is provided to Arapaho Elders during Native American Heritage Month.

The Northern Arapaho Tribe historically lived along the Front Range and now the Northern Arapaho of Wind River Reservation is one of the City of Longmont’s official Sister Cities, a first of its kind relationship between a City and a Tribal Nation.

Pre-registration is kindly requested so that we can better anticipate attendance at the event.
