We are hosting a community blood drive at Church of the Living God! Tuesday, August 25, 1:30-7pm.
DID YOU KNOW?
Summer and winter are the most critical times of the year when shortages are common - blood supply is down and the need goes up.
• In summer, schools are closed, families are on vacation, but local patients are still in need.
• A single car accident can require up to 100 units of blood.
• Next month is Childhood Cancer Awareness month. Many children receiving cancer treatment rely on blood and platelet transfusions throughout their care.
• More than 75% of Americans reaching age 72 will need donated blood within their lifetime. 97% will have a loved one who will need blood.
That’s why EVERY donation matters!
We are working with Versiti, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving blood health for patients everywhere. Versiti collects, tests, and distributes blood and blood products to hospitals in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Blood donation is essential for surgeries, trauma care, cancer treatment, and managing chronic conditions such as sickle cell disease. Versiti also operates mobile blood drives and community events to make donating as accessible as possible.
60% of the blood collected here stays right here in our northern Michigan area, most of it going to Munson and the schools.
I am really excited about this opportunity to serve our community in a super practical way. Our goal is to fill all 28 appointment slots. We set the time for the drive for 1:30-7pm to give folks a chance to come during the day or after work.
Bring a spouse, family member, or BFF and do it together!
For young people who would like to donate blood, if you’re 16 years old, you can donate with parental permission; if you’re 17, you don’t need parental permission (although it’s probably a good idea to talk with them about it.) :)
The whole process from check-in to donation to wrap-up only takes about an hour (actual donation process only takes about 10-15 min).
